Birthday Blues

Posted by cokelady

Yesterday was my 29th birthday. I couldn't wait for it to be over with! I felt really sick and crummy yesterday and it was one of those lousy "heavy in heart" days. But I did receive several phone calls (not from my own Mother, however -- I had to call her), the most amazing one from my BROTHER. I think this is the very first time EVER that Jon has called to wish me a happy birthday. It was kind of freaky. ;-) I think he was calling to just check on me as much as anything. It's amazing how a dweeb like Jon has grown up into such a great guy. Don't misunderstand -- he's still a dweeb. But I'm just blown away at what a great guy he's turned into and how... well, I don't know how to say it, but he amazes me!

I begged James to PLEASE not get me anything for my birthday this year. He usually goes way overboard and comes home with two or three bags full of gifts, mostly clothes from Christopher & Banks. I just wasn't in the mood to have a birthday -- felt like skipping it entirely, you know?! He couldn't resist though and he brought me an Anthony Burger DVD. It's pretty good!

Tammy stopped by yesterday to bring me a gift -- and a cherry-limeade from Sonic, with extra cherry syrup. My favorite. :-) She gave me a really cute recipe box... in the same old gift bag we've been passing back and forth for YEARS.

What's everybody else been up to? I know the Adams have been travelling, Mom's been strutting, and Jason has been making and then not fulfilling committments. What about the rest of you?

I'm suddenly very tired. Maybe it's because I'm another year older. Or maybe it's because simply recounting the battle with Joe wears me out all over again! In either case, I'm going to call it a night.

Love to you all!
~ Bec ~

Speaking as a grandmother, you better not mistreat my cuddle bug. However, I am glad you finally got him to eat. They will sure test you. ARRRGH!!! Trouble is that sometimes (we) don't hold out and teach them that bad behaviour doesn't win. Glad you are happier and feeling better about it all. Got to go for now, it's very late here.
~~Sis. Gaylene~~

ha ha! he sounds like me Sis.!!
ha ha i gagged down Rice once.. it was horid! i love Peanut Butter!!!!!!

Wow, that sure does bring back memories of my battles with Krissy. They weren't over food but other things where we had to win and it got so ridiculous. People thought I was nuts to push it that far but she was so strong willed! Not that Joe is going to turn out like her...no way. But you gotta do what it takes to win. I thought Brad would never eat anything new but now he eats more stuff than I will try. Kids. They say ya gotta love 'em but I don't know.... okay, I guess you do...but it's easiest when they're sleeping! Night night.

You are funny. your posts are so descriptive to the moment, feels like I was there. Glad your baby is eating again.

I was not aware of your birthday. I did notice that I am already 29, soon to be 30. That means I am your elder. I am sensing a little respect coming on here. Oh wait, somehow I always make this about me. Happy belated birthday. Enjoy the last year of your 20's. It is all downhill from there. Sorry all of you over 30's out there. I am just trying to spread some birthday cheer.

SCAN! SCAN! Someone is trying starve their child to death. Quick alert the authorities. *sirens* Don'y worry, Joe, we are on the way! *sirens*

Jason, you're officially kicked out of my blog, elder or not.

Grace, don't worry about the birthday -- you can come out from under your rock. I would have just as soon had it not mentioned at all! It was a flop. I'm saving up so I can have a really great birthday next year. ;-)

Oh, and Jared -- James says he thinks he has most (if not all) of what you need. Said he'd be in touch with you, but I know how those things go! So hang in there, I think he's working on it.

Katie is the one who gags on rice in our family. ;-) Maybe when the authorities take Joe away from us somebody could recommend you to be his guardian. The two of you could get along fine with a tub of PB and a couple of spoons. WEIRD-O's.

I did TOO call you on your birthday! (Didn't I?) I remember twice seeing you on my caller ID and answering the phone by singing "Happy Birthday." Once there was a long pause, then, "This is Katie, not Mom!" :-) But I think I called you once, too. *trying to remember for sure* ANYWAY, I just want to comment that you're a MEAN mother! Congratulations. "Mean mothers" produce good kids, generally. Look at me! I was one of the MEANEST and I have 2 GREAT KIDS!!!

We called you and sang to you, and everything. Guess that was too big a shock to remember. Or did you gag on it? This is getting too confusing. Well, next year we are planning on showing up on your porch, at 5:00 a.m., with a big cake, with black and gray frosting, a tombstone, and black baloons. Life is over!! We will also bring a black cane (crook), but Brother James will take that for his own use. You will not forget that meeting. Grands and Papa John

To Mom: you're still mean.

To the Clarksons: I did appreciate the phone call and the song -- and I didn't even gag. :-) You're welcome to bring the death cake next year (I'm ready!), but nobody at this house will be answering the door at 5:00am. And forget the cane/crook thing. James would turn it into a Grady Kent prop for sure. We've got enough junk like that around here! Ha!

Love you guys!

Cry me a river....29....HA! I am sticking my tongue out at you!

I can't say that I have ever had to starve my children for 4 days. You are much stronger than I... I'm thankful I never had that problem, at least I can't remember having that problem with my kids... But then my brain and thinking capacity is fried these days.

I'm confused...your mom wrote this on my blog on JULY 24TH...I was understanding that was your b-d (by the way I'm Jenna's mom).

"Vicki Smith said...
I don't remember where I was 17 years ago, but I DO remember where I was 29 years ago today. I, too, was driven to the hospital where I gave birth to a chubby (8lb. 13oz.) baby girl with lots of dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. It was a Sunday morning. I had my first contraction at 5:30am, went to the hospital and gave birth at 9:00am, then my husband left and went to Sunday School and to preach. :-) Seven days later we left in a motorhome to evangelize for 2 years. My goodness, that seems like 100 years ago!

WOW! We almost have twins! LOL! Happy birthday to Becki AND Joleesa. :-) "

See why I'm confused :oP Go to Jenna's blog and then her parents link and then the posting on 17 years ago.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed your b-day. You and your mom are a bright spot in my day through your blogs.

Okay, now I'M confused! What's the confusion about on your end, Sister Nowling? If it's the date, I can clarify: my birthday is, indeed, July 24th. I just didn't post about it until the next day. And I know who you are, by name if not personally. I know the Lewis Clan has known your family for YEARS. I'm so sorry. HA! Only kidding, of course. I was surprised to hear that Joleesa and Brother Sutton had the same birthday. Wow. I already knew of two friends from years ago who were born on that day. Popular!

Aunt Kay, I wasn't complaining that "I'm so old" -- I'm not dumb enough to do such a thing with this crowd! 29 isn't so bad. It's a lot better than 40. :-P I'm glad you've never had to starve any of your children until you could visibly see them wearing away. It's quite traumatic for a Mom, believe me!

I feel like an absolute idiot ~groan~. I saw your post date but some how I was thinking you said "today" was you birthday. Just call me the president of the confusion club ~shakes head~ SORRY!

Also, I accept all pity any one will give us for the YEARS we have known the Lewis clan ~giggle~ We definitely deserve it. Actually we love them all like our own family.

Hopefully you'll forgive the temp insanity of this overloaded mind.

I'll tell you this much... I will remember my 40th year, in this life, for quite some time...

I think I have a headache now.
